Music Opportunities

The Music Department offers many opportunities to talented and interested musicians through the co-curricular program, including:

Concert Bands

Concert Band 1 consists of the very best wind, brass and percussion musicians in the school: approximately 50 musicians. The Band often represents the School at Concerts and Festivals and an audition is usually required to join. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday mornings from 7.30am. This Band tours overseas; in 2004 the Band gained 2nd Place in the International Youth and Music Festival held in Vienna.

Concert Band 2 is a training band consisting of 50 students, mainly from years 7-9. Rehearsals are held on Thursday mornings from 7.30am.

Stage Band

Stage Band consists of a maximum of 20 students who have an interest in playing Big Band Jazz. This group is by audition only; rehearsals are held once a week on a Friday afternoon and this ensemble is a showpiece for the school.

String Ensemble

The String Ensemble rehearsals take place every Tuesday before school. The tutor is Mr Michael Tabrett.

Guitar Ensemble

The Guitar Ensemble rehearses before school on Mondays. Led by Mr Jeremy Brien, the ensemble consists of both experienced and beginner guitarists playing electric and acoustic guitars.

Choir

The choir consists of around 15 students. Performances are given at our term music nights.

Any student at Chatswood High School can hire a musical instrument at a cost of $160 for the year and $50 refundable bond. A wide variety of instruments are available.
