The TAS Faculty offers a wide range of technology-based electives that can be studied from Years 9 to 12.
What subjects can I study for my School Certificate?
Subjects that may be studied include Textiles and Design, Food Technology, Industrial Technology Electronics, Industrial Technology Timber, Design and Technology, and Graphics Technology.
Textiles and Design will allow students to develop a greater understanding of the process of designing and producing a variety of projects made of textiles. Students will gain greater understanding of the scientific and technological developments in textiles and their impact on society and it will allow them to exercise their creativity through design for textile usage.
Food Technology impacts daily upon people's lives. It promotes an understanding of various aspects of industry, technology and the broader environment while developing in students specific practical and thinking skills.
Graphics Technology will provide students with a broad understanding of the application of various types of graphics in modern society. Product drawing, engineering drawing and architectural drawing are just some of the topics studied, using traditional methods as well as extensive use and training in Computer Assisted Drawing and Design.
Industrial Technology Electronics will allow students to gain a thorough knowledge of electronic design from the past to the present. Students will design and construct a variety of electronic projects and develop fault finding skills as well as a clear understanding of electronics through a variety of theory assignments.
Industrial Technology Metal provides the opportunity for students to complete practical projects which encompass a variety of skills and techniques. Practical work involves the use of hand tools, welding equipment and metal machinery.
Industrial Technology Timber is designed for students who wish to increase their skills and depth of knowledge in the woodwork area. Practical work involves the use of hand tools and the introduction to wood turning on the lathes as well as a variety of power tools. Students will have the opportunity to complete a major project of their choice in Year 10.
