Visual Arts
Visual Arts as a subject provides for various interpretations of the visual arts in the areas of art, craft and design. The subject is sustained through practical and theoretical practise within a framework. This forms the basis for content and accommodates a wide range of student ability.
The Visual Arts 7-10 Syllabus
This course contains both Mandatory and Additional Studies courses. The Mandatory course provides significant core experiences through an imagined, recorded and interpreted world. It offers students opportunities to engage in creative enquiry through the making of artworks as well as their critical and historical understanding of art demonstrated in their writing about art.
The Additional Studies course builds on the Mandatory course and provides further extension and depth of study in the visual arts. It is designed for students seeking to extend their experience of the visual arts.
Visual Arts in Years 11-12, Stage 6 Syllabus
Visual Arts Stage 6 is offered as a course for students with a wide range of needs, abilities and interests. The course caters for a full range of students through learning opportunities based on a flexible content structure consisting of an equal balance of art-making and art criticism/art history within a frame (subjective, cultural, structural and postmodern) and conceptual framework (artist, artwork, world, audience).
The Preliminary course provides the foundation for more relational and interpretive ways of approaching content in the HSC course, which builds toward more sophisticated and subtle understanding.
The knowledge, understanding, skills and values gained from the subject assist students in building conceptual and practical skills which can be applied in art, craft, design and related careers in a world context.
